October Is Over And Out
How was October for you? For some reason, it just occurred to me that a “month” might be a quirky way of carving up time. Maybe this idea might have arisen because I’m currently reading Paul Ham’s amazing book “The Soul: A history of the human mind.” At the beginning of the book he describes 9 different calendars he used when he was writing the book. They are the: Buddhist; Byzantine; Chinese; French Republican; Gregorian/Christian; Hebrew; Hindu; Human Era; and Islamic or Hijri calendars. It’s a bit of a mind-stretch for me to consider all these different ways of carving up time. Nevertheless, even though it might be just one way of chunking time, it’s the way I know and the way I do it. It is fantastic to be aware, though, that there are other ways. More goal achieving defined October for me and I noticed that many of my goals are not so much achieved (and then archived) as they are maintained. Many of my goals are very much “works in progress”. They are particular ways of being or states that I like to keep at certain levels. That’s been fun to reflect on. Highlights for me in October were some Sunday restaurant lunches I had with my family. They’re very simple occasions really but wonderful memories to have created. I’m already having a terrific November. I hope you are too.
