February Flashed By

Perhaps it was all the excitement of starting a new job and all the learning that goes along with that but February flew by for me. A bunch of goals got checked off and a heap more got set! It seems like there is going to be lots of travel in this job and, this month, I had the privilege of visiting Melbourne, Canberra, and Brisbane. CQU has 13 different campuses and my new job involves working with people from many of these locations. It's been wonderful learning about people's expertise and interests. I had one 10km run this month…

Jumping January

January was such an amazing month for me that I completely forgot to let you know about it. The main event for me, was starting a new job back in QLD. It was really exciting getting back to QLD and working in Rockhampton again. Central QLD was where I began my teaching career so it felt a bit like coming full circle. We also had a really wonderful friend staying with us for a few days at the beginning of January which involved lots of laughing and great food and wine. Perhaps, though, the most mainest event, even mainer than…

A Dream of a December

December is always a special month for me. I love all the things that are involved in the Festive Season although, I must admit, after spending several years in the Northern Hemisphere, Christmas in the middle of Summer has never really been the same. But the other reason I like December is because it's my birthday month. This December my family and I took a road trip up to Coral Bay and Ningaloo Reef. We had an extraordinary time. We all love road trips so we had lots of fun driving up and back. Being able to snorkel with majestic…

No More November

Is it as astounding to you as it is to me that we're in December already? I really love this time of year when shops play Christmas songs and the Festive Season blossoms. There were so many good things about November. I hope yours was the same. I met a colleague for the first time who I've been communicating with for a while. She was visiting Perth for a conference so we had a couple of delightful lunches together. I continued meeting deadlines for an online probability course I'm doing and I've begun exploring the data for a really neat…

October Is Over And Out

How was October for you? For some reason, it just occurred to me that a "month" might be a quirky way of carving up time. Maybe this idea might have arisen because I'm currently reading Paul Ham's amazing book "The Soul: A history of the human mind." At the beginning of the book he describes 9 different calendars he used when he was writing the book. They are the: Buddhist; Byzantine; Chinese; French Republican; Gregorian/Christian; Hebrew; Hindu; Human Era; and Islamic or Hijri calendars. It's a bit of a mind-stretch for me to consider all these different ways of carving…
